Wow, well I have a fun little story to tell about last weekend (good times!), but that's going to have to wait, as there's real business to take care of first!
I need help from you guys....
I'm looking to talk with two age-group triathletes (of any skill level up to elite) about compression garments; two people with very different opinions....
Person #1: You wear compression religiously and believe it helps with recovery, endurance performance, etc. You love it, you wear it out in public even because you just don't care how silly you may look, and you think it's key to success on many levels.
Person #2: You hate compression and think it's a total gimmick, a waste of money, and you would never wear it; you think your regular socks are just as tight and you make fun of compression-wearing folks.
Are you Person #1 or Person #2? Tell me! I only need two people, so you have to be "extreme" for whatever side you're on. Please email me or leave a comment and we'll talk. I promise you this will be fun and worth your time :)
I am all over the compression band wagon, I have 2 tights, one pair of shorts, 3 socks, 2 race sleeves, I am wearing socks right now, at work under my work clothes
ReplyDeleteI wear. It. I love it. I think it helps in recovery and injury rehabilitation. I wish they made some cuter stuff that looked better but I still wear the ugly stiff out in public.
ReplyDeleteAs a scientist and triathlete, I've been very curious about compression wear. I'll be interested to see what arguments and thoughts each side has.
ReplyDeleteI obviously understand that the science behind it makes sense. It's just a matter of 'does it actually work.' Either way, I'll try them once I have the extra money to do so.
This smells like someone is brewing an xtra normal video!
ReplyDeleteI am absolutely 100% for it. I wear compression all the time! I have tights, socks, sleeves. I don't care how stupid it looks I totally believe in how much better I feel.
ReplyDeleteim wishy washy with the whole thing... i use my compression socks every now and again but most of the time i don't. def looking forward to hearing the feedback you get!
ReplyDeleteDig compression! Wear it during and after big events. Was so excited CEP came out with their colored versions so I could match my race kits, yes green! Shorts, compression socks and croc's are the best travel gear too. Even went with the Skins travel tights for my Euro IM last year.
ReplyDeleteI am definately no 2....I think its straight up placebo. Sorry, lol.
ReplyDeletemark me down as a waste of money.
ReplyDeleteI would love to hear more. I have done my own experiments and feel like number 2 -Waste of money...HOWEVER, I still wear them in the hope that there is true meaning to number 1...AND because I do have poor circulation and vericose veins runs in the family.
ReplyDeleteI think I could be a CW-X representative for how much of their stuff I own. I run in compression, bike in compression, hang out on the couch in compression. I have had 2 knee surgeries and I feel the compression really keep everything tight and in line. Maybe its my security blanket :)
ReplyDeleteCompression all the way.... Could not be without my sleeves or socks - had a DVT in my leg a couple of years ago and the difference now is even more radical.
ReplyDeleteI drive so much for work - and I always have my compression socks on under my dress pants...with heels. Yep. I'm pretty awesome ;) Specially when I have tough training weeks, they keep my feet and legs sooo happy with quick recovery.
ReplyDeleteCEP all day, everyday! no need to think it looks silly...people who rock compression in public are starting a new trend! the ones you aren't wearing it are the silly looking ones! :) But in all honesty, I think it works, some brands better than others because of who they are made and the graduated compression. I'm in for #1 if ya need me.
ReplyDeleteCompression is a tough subject, very similar to nutrition. You don't always feel a difference after one workout or even a dozen workouts, but you know something is good for you just because. I think of it as the "X" factor.
ReplyDeleteBeing a very healthy diabetic athlete, I know compression helps my extremities. Not just from a recovery standpoint but from an overall health standpoint. I keep my A1c in around 6 which takes a lot of dedication to help minimize my risk of complications like neropathy of my legs. If something like a compression sleeve can not only help but do double duty, I'm in!
I rock CEP sleeves on my legs! Great topic!
BIg fan of the CEP sox.... I'm on my feet all day long treating patients and think it helps when i have 2-a-days especially. as a science person myself, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a RTC or some reliable research on the benefits of compression in athletes
ReplyDeleteIm definately person #1. I didnt get into compression until this year but we injured athletes are tought to R.I.C.E, guess what the C is? So i've been atune to the big C for a while. I've been having a pesky calf injury for the last 3 months but when im wearing, like on last nights run im pain free (with my compression slevs). Makes me wonder how fresh my legs would feel if I wore them all the time like Chloe.~DS
ReplyDeletebig Zoot fan here! definitely helps when I am on my feet all day for personal training. I get home from work, after wearing compression socks, and legs feel awesome.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had the $$ to wear compression sox they are like 100 bux a pop! and I worked at a running store back in hs! I do think they are effective and supportive to muscles that need the extra support if a muscle is strained etc...
ReplyDeleteI love compression shorts on the other hand :)
I have to say that I don't get the big controversy over compression - athletes have wrapped injured or sore areas for ages and had them feel better; is it so crazy to think that doing so with a set of specifically designed garments might help improve performance/recovery? I'm all for it. And like most things triathlon related it looks kinda lame on guys, but I think chicks in compression socks are hot.
